Why I Became a Doula
I didn’t always plan to become a doula. In fact, it surprised even me — but looking back, it makes perfect sense.
During my friends’ births, I found myself instinctively offering support… and wishing I could do more. After having three children of my own — the last with a doula — I realized just how important that support is. I thought: What if I could be that person for someone else?
I cherished how our doula gave my husband the confidence and tools to be the hero of my birth experience. My best memories of laboring are of him because she helped him shine. I have a passion to empower dads and partners to create that kind of memory for their family.
Becoming a doula has felt like finding my place. It’s a way to help my family, share my gifts, and be part of something deeply meaningful. I bring a warm presence and a calm confidence to the families I serve — because your birth story deserves to feel radiant, too.
What Does a Doula Do?
Support When Your Need It
Doulas provide non-medical, continuous emotional, physical, and informational support before, during, and after childbirth. They help create a positive birth experience through pain management techniques (breathing, massage), labor coaching, and facilitating communication with medical staff.
According to an article from the American Pregnancy Association, Doulas are an incredible ace up parents' sleeves during the birth journey. The article reports that, "studies have shown that having a doula as a member of the birth team decreases the overall cesarean rate by 50%, the length of labor by 25%, the use of oxytocin by 40%, and requests for an epidural by 60%."
Doulas do not perform clinical or medical tasks, diagnose conditions, give medical advice, or make decisions for the client. They do not deliver the baby, check vaginal dilation, monitor fetal heart rates, or replace the role of medical staff or partners.
Prenatal Support
Preparing for Birth
We will meet at least three times before labor to build a strong connection and talk through your birth preferences, any questions or concerns, and how I can best support you. At least one of these meetings will be in person. Together, we’ll explore coping strategies for pain and fatigue, discuss how you and your partner envision working as a team during labor, and tailor our approach to what feels right for you. Additional meetings can be scheduled as needed, and we’ll stay in regular contact by phone or email throughout your pregnancy.
